Meet our friend Marcus Barone

My sister Donna met Marcus Barone years ago when she lived in SoHo.

He wrote a song Savage Lover and dedicated it to The Greenwold Family.

He was a great looking guy with perfect sprayed hair and went on to fame and fortune.

Marcus Barone is a Motion Picture Executive in Charge of Music and Music Supervisor in Los Angeles, California.

In 1992, he became Director of Music and Supervisor at Motion Picture Corp. of America(Columbia / Tristar) in Los Angeles. Besides his creative input and a full worldwide knowledge of film, music catalogs and artists, his duties included licensing, publishing, legal contracts and soundtracks.

He was appointed Executive in Charge of Music at Orion Pictures in 1998.

Today Marcus operates Film Music Group /First International Pictures, a Motion Picture Music Supervision, Investment, Soundtrack, and Production Company in Los Angeles, a full staffed company working with clients including Universal, Dreamworks Records, Sony Pictures Entertainment, MGM Pictures, NBC, ABC, MTV, A&E, Comedy Central Networks, and Lucasfilm / Skywalker Sound. Marcus owns two state of the art digital recording studios both in Los Angeles and in Redwood City, in Silicon Valley.

He has given lectures and appeared on panels including: NARAS Conference (Grammy Awards); U.C.L.A., Los Angeles; The Turner Classic Movies Composer's Symposium and Conference, Los Angeles; Hollywood Film Festivals, McGeorge School of Law; University of San Francisco; West Coast Songwriters; Sundance / Utah Music Jam Symposium; A.E.S. Panel and Dolby Labs, San Francisco.

Marcus is also a BMI composer and song writer well as a studio musician. (Keyboards, digital Pro Tools and Logic technologies). His music publishers are MGM Pictures Music, Sony Pictures Entertainment Music and Famous Music (Paramount). Recently he performed and won 4 Gold and Platinum Awards for the band "Lifehouse". He also performed on the "Matt Nathanson" album. Both artists are on Universal Records.

He started his music career in New York in the 1980's as a successful recording industry studio musician/arranger (keyboards and synthesizer programming), playing on a variety of hit records. He worked as A&R as well as a producer at Silverblue / Sony Records. He wrote several theme songs for Paramount Television after moving to California in 1985.

Marcus' sister was married to Bobby Van, pianist and owner of Bobby Van's Restaurant in Bridgehampton, New York. Marcus grew up surrounded by, and would occasionally play piano for the various Southern writers who congregated around the keyboard at Bobby's. Authors such as Irwin Shaw, Truman Capote, Willie Morris, Winston Groom, John Knowles, and James Jones. Also Carl Bernstein, Budd Schulberg, and George Plimpton would occasionally drop by to have a listen.
