From the NY Times POETRY

Landscape with the Fall of Icarus

William Carlos Williams

According to Brueghel
when Icarus fell
it was spring

a farmer was ploughing
his field
the whole pageantry

of the year was
awake tingling
with itself

sweating in the sun
that melted
the wings' wax

unsignificantly
off the coast
there was

a splash quite unnoticed
this was
Icarus drowning

....

And in the shelf in the Family Room, ie, basement, is the book PATERSON by William Carlos Williams, a physician, who would quickly type up poems before his next patient.

...

MY DINNER PLATE

A sweet sweet-potato, baked by sister Ellen

Heaping servings of liverwurst - say, LiverWURSHT - on Triscuits

Ahh, that was marvelous, a favorite word of the late Bill Cardinale

Chew as if it were baby food

Every mouthful a marvel

And then lie back in your winged easy chair

And snore.
