STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Susan Axt, 54, of Dongan Hills, a clothing label designer who will be remembered as caring and creative, died Dec. 21 in Calvary Hospital, Brooklyn, of cancer.
Born Susan Jurman in Beverly Hills, Calif., she was an infant when she moved with family to Queens, where she grew up and went to high school. She moved to North Brunswick, N.J., in 1987, and settled in Dongan Hills in 2003.
She graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan.
Mrs. Axt had worked as a clothing label designer for Alkahn Labels in Manhattan. Prior to that, she worked at several temporary jobs. She stopped working in 2013, due to illness.
Creative and artistic, she enjoyed painting. She was fond of sewing and designed and made bridal headpieces. She also was fond of interior decorating and had made her home both beautiful and comfortable.
"She was very caring," said her husband, Marshall. "She always cared about other people and put them before herself. She was a good friend, and was close to my brother, Raymond."
Surviving Mrs. Axt, along with Marshall, her husband of 27 years, is her mother, Margaret Ruff.
Arrangements, including burial in Cedar Park Cemetery, Paramus, N.J., were handled by the Schwartz Brothers Funeral Home, Forest Hills, Queens.
