Vote for John Weinrich - nice guy - but I've already cast my vote - DOWNTON ABBY THE FILM

HAPPY HALLOWEEN. Tomorrow I will post some photos. I wore my witch's hat which I bought years ago at the Willow Grove mall.

In the mail today I got a ludicrous ad for VOTE JOHN WEINRICH, PA State Representative.

My name was taped onto the envelope and there was no return address.

It was like one of those kidnap notes.

VOTE JOHN WEINRICH... YOUR VOICE IN HARRISBURG

RE/MAX Realtor. Cartoon of John leaning on a SOLD SIGN.

He's also in a Weinrich's Bakery Truck, quite old.

The Bakery is fabulous! He has a photo of the top of the bakery which looks like

B

A

K

E

R

Y

Also, established 1919. Hmm, what happened in the year 1919. A war perhaps?

For the record, he says, he believes that Trump genuinely lost the election.

Productive Re/Max Hall of Fam Realtor, sold hundreds of houses in district.

Active Full time realtor since 1995

Self employed small businessman, NOT a career politician.

Will fight inflation with every tool available in state government

.....

Watched a couple of AMAZON PRIME FILMS for free including

THE SHOOTIST with John Wayne and Lauren Bacall and young Ron Howard and also Jack Palance

Very good! "The Duke" was actually dying of cancer when he made the film.

Downton Abby the film was terrible. Same cast BUT silly plot... Maggie Smith inherits a villa - those same dreary voices - Lady Mary whining

Okay, Scott is here to tuck me in now.

Later!!!

....

Middle of the night now. Listening to "Straight No Chaser" a capella band on WHYY-TV. It's their 25th anniversary. They started out as a male/female band at Indiana University in Pennsylvania. They are loads of fun.

How many men are in the band? Am guessing 10.

View them here. https://sncmusic.com/ STRAIGHT NO CHASER.

BRAVO ETHAN AND MARK MORRIS including Marcy Harriel

Great reviews for Mark Morris Dance Group with Ethan Iverson doing the music.

As a kid, my dad and I played a two-handed chopsticks!

And of course MRS ANN KULTTI was my piano teacher. She and husband Ted lived in TWINSBURG OHIO in a modern house.

Just got home from a walk around the block wearing my cowboy hat and warm coat from the SWEATER MILL in Hatboro, PA.

Gonna go on YouTube and listen to Marcy Harriel play.

SCOTT AND I WALKED AT THE NOISY PENNYPACK !!!!

Why was it noisy? Leafblowers, lawn mowers, but we still enjoyed ourselves.

We got our Vitamin D in for the day.

When I got home I learned that my friend Beatriz Moisset will have her funeral at BRIARBUSH PARK.

Guess what?

I can't find a ride.

The funeral is on Sunday.

I have been there many many times. Beatriz even had programs there which I attended b/c I could drive myself during the day.

Okay, that's it. I will get there somehow. Maybe Sister Ellen can drive me.

Ellen and I just got home from...Grocery Outlet in Warminster - great place

SORRY FOR THE ERRORS.

After that, we stopped at SECOND STORIES, a used book store right next door.

BOOKS GALORE but I didn't see anything worth buying, like possibly the complete short stories of Hemingway or John Updyke or Joyce Carol Oates.

I bought a pkg of KIT KATS as I did not know whether or not I was "low" - my glucose, that is.

The parking lot is terrible to get in and out of.

Thank you I said to the owner of the second hand bookstore.

AND NOW lunch please.

Fat delicious sausages.

With sauerkraut and mustard.

Look what I found!

I was not looking for the late author Meindert DiJong but found him anyway. These were books I read as a kid.

How many cups of coffee did I drink today?

I brewed Maxwell House Coffee as I needed to read and finish by

7 pm when our book group began online from my library. The odd thing was that I was nearly finished reading it, but couldn't remember a thing, so I started all over again.

We had about 7 people in the group. Somehow I mentioned the TESLA Family at the end of my street.

Folks laughed.

What I was really looking for was a TV show made years ago by the Bell and Howell people, methinks, about our skin as cover for what goes on inside our bodies.

Never of course did I dream that my two kidneys would one day be affected by taking the drug lithium, the the gold standard for bipolar disorder.

Now I am patting my daughter Sarah's kidney, she named Odysseus, as he returns to mother.

Was lying in bed with CPAP machine in my nostrils thinking I would be asleep in, oh, 20 minutes, when I realized the POWER OF COFFEE.

Lemme write a poem here and now about ...

POUR YOURSELF A HOT CUPPA JAVA

Careful, now, you just woke up

Darkness surrounds you

Grab the Chemex coffeemaker, I often use to water

the indoor plants. The shape is magnificent, like a woman's body,

I stuff half a dozen white filters inside and sprinkle

sweet-smelling coffee inside and then pour pour pour

hot water inside. So much Maxwell House I must be sure

to catch every little piece of sweet coffee and do.

Heaven awaits on the very first sip.

Insulin-dependent diabetes has been a problem for me. Years ago, my diabetes mentor was one Mary Ann Moylan.

DEVOTED TO YOU

YES, tis the middle of the night and I am greeted by the great news that my true story DEVOTED TO YOU has been published by Onkar Sharma on the below link.

https://literaryyard.com/2022/10/26/devoted-to-you/

Emailed it to many folks including CC, who I am trying to win back.

I have removed my CPAP machine and as usual a few salt n pepper hairs came with it. Wish I could mail it to Stephen Weinstein, whose photo is on my side wall, but the man is dead.

https://literaryyard.com/2022/10/26/devoted-to-you/

I still haven't figured out how to send a link.

GEEZ !!!!

Russell Eisenman, PhD, obituary notice.

Oh no! This is terribly small. Thanks for sending it though, Dave, Russell's blond haired son.

I've gotta figure out how to make it bigger!

Hold on and I'll see what I can do.

Russell Eisenman, a psychology professor who taught at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and the legacy institution University of Texas-Pan American, died on June 24, 2022 at his Edinburgh home. He was 82.

Dr Eisenman was born on April 17, 1940 in Savannah, Georgia to Abram and Georgia Eisenman.

He received his doctorate in psychology from the University of Georgia.

Before working in Edinburgh, he was a psychology professor at Temple University in Philadelphia; The University of California, Santa Cruz; McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana; and Kentucky Wesleyan College.

Dr Eisenman worked for about 20 years as a psychology professor at the legacy institutions UTPA and UTRGV.

“The students really liked him,” said Jerwen Jou, a professor in the Department of Psychological Science and a colleague of Dr. Eisenman, who has known him since 2001. “He was very kind to his students. He was very nice to his colleagues, including me.”

When asked what he thought about Dr. Eisenman will always be remembered, Jou said he admired his “spirit of never wanting to retire.”

“I would remember him as a person who never stopped working, even in his 80s,” he said. “His determination to work and never retire is admired, I think.”

Jou said that a few weeks before Dr. Eisenman’s death expressed an interest in a magazine.

“He emailed the department saying he had become associate editor of a journal and encouraged colleagues to submit articles for that journal,” he said.

Dr Eisenman’s son David described his father as “very smart and funny”.

“His sharp mind and great sense of humor made him a good teacher and a fun and interesting conversationalist,” David Eisenman wrote in an email to The Rider. “[He] was loved and will be missed for all of his unique qualities and joy.”

In addition to his son David, Dr. Eisenman his daughter Susan and grandson Kelsey, both from Santa Cruz, California; Brother Bob of Oakland, California; and best friend Ramiro Zamora from Edinburgh.

TOO MUCH AIR ON MY DIABETES SENSOR

Spoke to Gerard from the Philippines who calibrated my diabetes sensor so it spews out a decent amount of air.

Also I was in terrible pain from a back ache. Called my kidney doc whose Natasha told me to take Tylenol but not too much.

Just took my bedtime dose. Remarkable how much it helped!

Ellen, my sister, was also elemental in helping me.

I wondered if the meds had expired, a term that is often used.

Must finish a book for my reading group tomorrow night. It is fascinating but I can't think of a single thing to say about it.

AND I am loving JAMES PATTERSON'S THE STORIES OF MY LIFE.

Funny, sad, filled with feelings, and many shocking things that happened to this now famous writer who once worked at the ad agency WALTER THOMPSON.

Reminds us of our old friends - writers and performers - like Jimmy Breslin, the DOORS, Jimi Hendrix, Joplin, Richie Havens, Joe Cocker.

Where are they now?

Country Joe and the Fish.

Yasgar's Farm and the closing of the freeway to get to WOODSTOCK.

Warren Greene my brother/law was there,

I never tire of watching WOODSTOCK.

Nightie night!!!

RAINY DAY COUCH POEM

RAINY DAY COUCH POEM

I saw it for a quick moment

Soaking up the rain

The cleansing rain

A foam blue

Once they sat there

Eating popcorn and watching

Amazon Prime films

Their laughter steaming

Up the windows

Now the couch awaits

-         What? -  the jaws

Of the trash truck and the

Final indignity of the landfill

Or is it?

PHILADELPHIA WINS NATIONAL LEAGUE

Philadelphia Skyline.

And why is Philadelphia in the news?

BRYCE HARPER, most valuable player.

$330,000,000

The Phillies won the National League Playoff.
Bryce Harper signed a 13 year / $330,000,000 contract with the Philadelphia Phillies, including a $20,000,000 signing bonus, $330,000,000 guaranteed, and an annual average salary of $25,384,615. In 2023, Harper will earn a base salary of $26,000,000, while carrying a total salary of $27,538,462.

Some background info: The Philadelphia Phillies are an American professional baseball team based in Philadelphia. They compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member of the National League (NL) East division. Since 2004, the team's home stadium has been Citizens Bank Park, located in the South Philadelphia Sports Complex. Founded in 1883, the Philadelphia Phillies are the oldest continuous same-name, same-city franchise in all of American professional sports.[5][6][7][8]

The Phillies have won two World Series championships (against the Kansas City Royals in 1980 and the Tampa Bay Rays in 2008), eight National League pennants (the first of which came in 1915), and made 15 playoff appearances. As of October 1, 2022, the team has played 21,203 games, winning 10,019 games and losing 11,184.[9]

Since the first modern World Series was played in 1903, the Phillies have played 119 consecutive seasons and 139 seasons since the team's 1883 establishment. Before the Phillies won their first World Series in 1980, the team went longer than any of the other MLB 16 teams of the first half of the 20th century without a World Series championship. Since the start of the Divisional Era in 1969, however, the Phillies have emerged as one of MLB's most successful teams, winning 14 division titles (including five consecutive such titles from 2007 to 2011), eight National League pennants, and two World Series championships.

The franchise was founded in Philadelphia in 1883, replacing the team from Worcester, Massachusetts, in the National League. The team has played at several stadiums in the city, beginning with Recreation Park (1883–1886) and continuing at Baker Bowl (1887–1938); Shibe Park (which was renamed Connie Mack Stadium in 1953 in honor of the longtime Philadelphia Athletics manager Connie Mack) (1938–1970); Veterans Stadium (1971–2003), and now Citizens Bank Park (2004-present).

Despite their longevity (and, in part, because of it) and their rabid fan base, the Phillies are a team historically associated with futility, being the first American sports franchise to amass over 10,000 losses; the team holds the world record for most ever losses by a single team in all of professional sports.[10] Yet, also due in part to their longevity, the Phillies also are one of only nine teams to have won over 10,000 games in their history. Hall of Fame third baseman Mike Schmidt is widely considered the franchise's greatest player of all time.[11] Over the team's history since 1883, 32 Phillies players have been awarded entry into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

The Philadelphia Phillies' Triple-A affiliate is the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, who play at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown. The Double-A affiliate is the Reading Fightin Phils, who play in Reading. The Class-A affiliates are the Jersey Shore BlueClaws, who play in Lakewood Township, New Jersey, and the Clearwater Threshers, who play at BayCare Ballpark.

The team's spring training facilities are in Clearwater, Florida.

The horrors and hopes of war

From the NY Times. This young man lost his legs, but helpers at an old hospital are helping him.

One minute his leg was there. Next minute it was GONE !!!

I just watched an excellent NETFLIX FILM called DESCENDANT, about the effects of slavery in the USA.

The slave ship Clotilde was found - parts of it anyway - the last ship, they say, to sail into the south.

ALEXA, can you help me straighten out my living room.

Ancient Pompeii, a city like our own, except buried in volcanic ash.

Several years ago I was there, yes, me, and I saw their amphora and pizza ovens and houses of ill repute.

SO LONG BEATRIZ MOISSET, dies Tuesday, October 18, 2022

OUR BEATRIZ MOISSET passed away three hours ago, on Tuesday, October 18, 2022. Her son Peter posted about it.

B, you were one of the best people I have ever met. At last your suffering is over from your multiple myeloma.

We should donate to that cause.

What grand times we would have when we met at her TWIN BROOKS CONDO.

She was a magnificent host for... Martha, Allan Heller, Ken Ivins, Donna Krause. Linda often stayed home to be with her mother.

.....

In this new haze that came upon her

She mumbled to no one in particular
though shadows hovered in the background

Twas brillig and the slithy toves did gyr and
gimble in the wabe

Her Argentina was getting closer as she remembered
the Parana Delta and Rio de la Plata Basin

How she and her son and had watched Rick Steves
- such a name - travel guide with wide smile and
perfect teeth, an hombre apuesto

They laughed on days when energy infused her
Energy? What was that? Energia?

Her people, Ken, Barbara, Linda, Ruth, Allen, Rem and Martha,
appeared to fan her with wide palmettos with painful
prickers.

The television honked at her. "Keep your arms in the boat,
remove sunglasses, and look ahead."

The blue grotto. She felt her curly black hair
black as the night sky back in The Argentine
where she and Manny once rubbed noses, like
Esquimal

Coming, darling, she called.
Coming soon.
The waters swept her away
just another Helen Keller
gone in the deep.

EATING WELL IF YOU HAVE DIABETES

 Eating Well

What superstar foods are good for diabetes?

“Superfood” is a term used by many food and beverage companies as a way to promote a food thought to have health benefits; however, there is no official definition of the word by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The FDA regulates the health claims allowed on food labels to ensure there is scientific research to support the claims. The list of foods below are rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fiber that are good for overall health and may also help prevent disease.

Beans

Kidney, pinto, navy or black beans are packed with vitamins and minerals such as magnesium and potassium. They are very high in fiber too.

Beans do contain carbohydrates, but ½ cup also provides as much protein as an ounce of meat without the saturated fat. To save time you can use canned beans, but be sure to drain and rinse them to get rid of as much added salt as possible.

Dark green leafy vegetables

Spinach, collards and kale are dark green leafy vegetables packed with vitamins and minerals such as vitamins A, C, E and K, iron, calcium and potassium. These powerhouse foods are low in calories and carbohydrates too. Try adding dark leafy vegetables to salads, soups and stews.

Citrus fruit

Grapefruits, oranges, lemons and limes or pick your favorites to get part of your daily dose of fiber, vitamin C, folate and potassium.

Berries

Which are your favorites: blueberries, strawberries or another variety? Regardless, they are all packed with antioxidants, vitamins and fiber. Berries can be a great option to satisfy your sweet tooth and they provide an added benefit of vitamin C, vitamin K, manganese, potassium and fiber.

Tomatoes

The good news is that no matter how you like your tomatoes, pureed, raw, or in a sauce, you’re eating vital nutrients like vitamin C, vitamin E and potassium.

Fish high in omega-3 fatty acids

Omega-3 fats may help to reduce the risk of heart disease and inflammation. Fish high in these healthy fats are sometimes referred to as "fatty fish." Salmon is well known in this group. Other fish high in omega-3 are herring, sardines, mackerel, trout and albacore tuna. Choose fish that is broiled, baked or grilled to avoid the carbohydrate and extra calories that would be in fish that is breaded and fried. The American Diabetes Association Standards of Medical Care in Diabetes recommends eating fish (mainly fatty fish) twice per week for people with diabetes.

Nuts

An ounce of nuts can go a long way in getting key healthy fats along with helping to manage hunger. In addition, they offer magnesium and fiber. Some nuts and seeds, such as walnuts and flax seeds, are a good source of omega-3 fatty acids.

Whole grains

It’s the whole grain you’re after. The first ingredient on the label should have the word “whole” in it. Whole grains are rich in vitamins and minerals like magnesium, B vitamins, chromium, iron and folate. They are a great source of fiber too. Some examples of whole grains are whole oats, quinoa, whole grain barley and farro.

Milk and yogurt

You may have heard that milk and yogurt can help build strong bones and teeth. In addition to calcium, many milk and yogurt products are fortified to make them a good source of vitamin D. More research is emerging on the connection between vitamin D and good health. Milk and yogurt do contain carbohydrate that will be a factor in meal planning when you have diabetes. Look for yogurt products that are lower in fat and added sugar.

Tips for eating on a budget

Some of the items above can be tough on the budget depending on the season and where you live. Look for lower cost options such as fruit and vegetables in season or frozen or canned fish. Foods that are easier on the budget year ‘round are beans and whole grains that you cook from scratch.

KEN DUCKWORTH head of NAMI - National Alliance for Mental Illness

Ken Duckworth’s journey into psychiatry started when he was a boy growing up with a dad who experienced severe bipolar disorder. His father was loving, kind and periodically quite ill, hospitalized for months at a time. Ken became a psychiatrist in part to help his father. He is very fortunate to serve as the Chief Medical Officer for NAMI and to be part of this remarkable community.

Ken recently authored NAMI’s first book, “You Are Not Alone: The NAMI Guide to Navigating Mental Health―With Advice from Experts and Wisdom from Real People and Families.” Written with authority and compassion, this is the essential resource for individuals and families seeking expert guidance on diagnosis, treatment and recovery, featuring inspiring, true stories from real people in their own words.

Ken is double-board certified in adult and child/adolescent psychiatry and has completed a forensic psychiatry fellowship.

What Do You Wish More People Knew About NAMI?

NAMI is a very special community with an amazingly important mission. Virtually any researcher or clinician I ask for an Ask the Doctor webinar or to present at our convention says yes to my request. What we want/need matters in the scientific community and I think that is important and hopeful for progress in our field.

Who Inspires You?

The NAMI members who teach our remarkable peer and family programs inspire me. I have heard many people say a NAMI program changed their relationships for the better, or even saved their lives. We need to be sure everyone knows about these essential resources.

NAMI can take a lot of credit for promoting the increased openness in discussions on mental health and living with a mental illness. This change in our society inspires me. Our work is not done, and I know we will stay true to this mission.

ODE TO MAILMAN EUGENE

Just wrote this poem now, and ran down the street to hand it to.....

MAILMAN EUGENE

So many mailmen and mailwomen.

They try their best but none can compare

With my Mailman Eugene.

Kindness is his middle name.

Integrity his last.

It’s the little things he does

Like dig the mail from the 204 Cowbell Road

Mailbox, clinging like Sidney Poitier to the

Train on THE DEFIANT ONES.

These real men have big leg muscles

Like Dad’s used to be before he expired

From smoking too many Luckies.

Mayhap Eugene’s daddy is also

A mailman. A fine profession

For a fine individual, like Eugene O’Neil

Or Eugene Ionesco

Put up your aching legs when you get home

Have a beer and close your eyes

And rest, rest, rest.

....

His daddy is not a mailman.

PEPPERLAND - by the Beatles

Oh dear. TOO TEENY WEENY to view.

Pepperland cast.

Notes by Ethan Iverson. No, he is not the basketball player, Allen Iverson

Tomorrow Mark Morris takes MMDG to Santa Monica for the premiere of "The Look Of Love," his new dance set to Burt Bacharach compositions arranged by myself.

I met Burt on Zoom a couple of times, that was pretty awesome.

Brian Seibert reports in the New York Times.

A short Broadway World interview recaps some of my history with Mark Morris.

The wonderful Marcy Harriell is handling the lead vocals; the rest of the ace band includes Blaire Perrin, Clinton Curtis, Johnathan Finlayson, Simón Willson, and Vinnie Sperrazza.

This is the second evening-length score I've put together for Mark Morris in recent years, the first was "Pepperland" to music around and about the Beatles. Nate Chinen came to the most recent performance (we've done "Pepperland" about 80 times now) this past spring ...

Unpublished Letter to the Editor of Times Chronical

THIS LETTER TO THE EDITOR OF THE TIMES CHRONICAL WAS JUST PUBLISHED IN their  LATEST ISSUE.

October 10 is Mental Illness Awareness Day. More than ever before, the various conditions – whether bipolar disorder, anxiety, schizophrenia or obsessive compulsive disorder – are highly treatable. An individual can live a “normal” life and no one need know, unless you tell them.

We, at New Directions Support Group, recommend you find a good psychiatrist, psychotherapist, and a peer-led support group. There is nothing more comforting than sharing your story – confidentially – with others who have “been there.” In this way, you won’t suffer from the isolation that makes us feel worse.

Medicine can lift your spirits. Many folks struggle against using medication, but given a chance, they learn it chases the darkness into light.

Other treatments include the new transcranial stimulation therapy, (TMS), where the patient sits in a chair and the doctor “taps” on their brain. This new strategy is highly effective.

Use the Internet to discover support groups near you.

If you feel suicidal, do not hesitate to dial 988, and you will find a person to talk to. Perhaps they will suggest you visit a psychiatric hospital. There are many excellent facilities in the Philadelphia area.

Hope abounds more than ever. Visit your local library and find books such as Kay Jamison’s “An Unquiet Mind” or “A Brilliant Madness” by Nobel-prizewinner, John Forbes Nash, Jr. and “The Unapologetic Mind of Black Mental Health.”

Although it is imperative to stay on your medication, ask your physician if your illness may have resolved itself when you are over sixty.

Yes, this phenomenon does indeed occur.

Netflix Racing Driver - Thousands were cheering from the stands

https://www.netflix.com/watch/81399204?trackId=260119223&tctx=0%2C0%2Cdfe7a9ca-dbd8-4c3d-8e31-0c76a318a806-204238712%2CGPS_7CB8CA756288C9E0783F0A331E7D4F-1E21E22E587860-A519165179_p_1665874337744%2CGPS_7CB8CA756288C9E0783F0A331E7D4F_p_1665874337744%2C%2C%2C%2C

This RACING FILM WAS super exciting!

Michael Schumaker has a top competitive spirit and finally won the race in a city in Germany. Thing is he nearly killed himself and others.

I stopped watching the terrible THE WATCHER and have no aftereffects.

At Costco I bought an immense jar of TASTER'S CHOICE - 210 cups - and had a cup while eating a salmon dinner. I did walk over to the compost heap and dumped the salmon there. Filled with bones.

There is an enormous piece of excrement there so we must watch our step.

I wanna write about going to Costco. It's as big as an airplane hangar. We all have HUGE carts which we must wheel around. Not easy.

Anything good on PBS? Hold on.

The Master of Suspense

I suppose this photo is from THE BIRDS.

Will miss my Creative Writing Group at Warminster Library due to rainy weather. I wrote Eva to tell her.

Hmm. What shall I have for breakfast.

Coffee? I do love hot beverages. Although I could drink Chamomile Tea, which I ordered from GiantDirect.

So I was watching a film about a landslide in Nepal and the funeral.

Came a knock on the door.

NO ONE knocks on your door these days.

I got up and slammed the door and locked it.

Twas GIANTDIRECT for today.

And there was Justin, who said your gentleman friend should be here any minute.

He did chastise me for my lack of trust.
