Hello again, Fred Danziger!
Painting "Tartes" by Fred Danziger. Here's his website.
In 1984, I worked for Art Matters magazine as assistant editor under Doris Brandes. Doris, a doyenne of the Philadelphia art world, died in 2005 at age 81. Read her obit here.
Doris gave me the most wonderful assignments. I interviewed, among others, Christopher Ray, Robinson Fredenthal, Vladimir Shatalof, Sam Maitin - all deceased - and made the acquaintance of Burt Wasserman, now in his 80s, who still writes for Art Matters, now owned by Montgomery Publishing.
I also met my dear friend Helene Ryesky, who was a photographer for AM.
Here's Helene before she moved into Rydal Park. We went out on many assignments together.
Am still friends with the artist Evelyn Kobler who I saw earlier this year at her home/studio in downtown Philly
Evelyn Kobler knows how to entertain guests.
Then Doris sent me to Camden, NJ, to interview Fred Danziger.
The attempts to revitalize Camden have never succeeded.
Camden is home to the Campbell's Soup Company
RCA Victor was also there before it closed down and took its biz overseas.
Scott's dad worked at RCA Victor.
In Scott's living room he has the famous logo, but in sculpture form
The Nipper Building is named after the RCA dog, Nipper.
"Nipper, please! Stop nipping me. That hurts!"
Fred Danziger has his own YouTube channel. Watch him paint a blond by a pool in the night.
"Night Pond" by Fred Danziger.
A round of applause, please, for the great artist Fred Danziger.
He's still painting, teaching art, and is represented by galleries here in Philly, in Pittsburgh (the city of three rivers) and in New York City.
Dream big, Readers, and do the hard work to get there.
