The Saga of the Flawed Andersen Screen Door

In a previous post, I wrote

We called up the Andersen people, with their broad Minnesota accents, and were advised of what we must do in order for them to send us a new door.

- Mail back the old door

- Photograph the flawed areas and email to them

- Send a record of how long I've lived in this house

- Send my IRS tax form, to confirm the house is mine, plus an electric bill

- Send original invoice from Dave Small who installed everything, including a stairway.

How many people dyou think will actually do all this?

Invoices of David B Small

The Andersen windows are very expensive!

Scott removed the door and put it behind the bar.

Today he worked on it.

He removed the corroded latch.

He replaced it with a new replacement latch from Andersen and sealed it with silicone to prevent it from rusting again.

Scott discovered the water comes in from the top of the storm door through the molding and the screw holes. The screws holding the molding were all rotted.
My friend Nick Breslin has a deck and awning business.

Just emailed him to see if he would come out and put in a small awning or deflector.

Scott worked hard on the door and I rewarded him with a delicious

Scallops dinner. Sauteed everything in olive oil - peppers, mushrooms and lots of fresh lemon juice. Bought five large scallops at the Giant and cut them into bite-sized pieces.

Will send this blog post to the good folks at Andersen Doors and Windows in Bayport, Minnesota.
