Coffee, el Presidente, and Poetry

Remembrances.

If it's spring, it must be time for Lynn Levin's Poetry Class!

Needed some supplies at the Giant, so drove over this morning. Ran into Wayne, my neighbor on Greyhorse Road, who came shopping with a friend of his who was riding in one of their wheelchairs, after a hip replacement.

Wayne did not like that idea.

He had a bunch of Snapple in his basket. I asked him what his late wife Carol liked to drink. Coke or Diet Coke, he said.

Important to always remember and honor their beloveds.

What kind of coffee am I drinking?

The Snickerdoodle or something like that Iris gave me years ago when they visited. It's quite tasty and will help me compose.

My poem of the day on Facebook

THE LITTLE BLUE BUDDHA

Sitting outside this morning
on the stoop, the buzz of
a pollinator shattered my
reverie, arriving like a
bomb on the silky soft
egg white

One thing on my mind was
the Easter Egg Hunt on
the White House Lawn.
A tradition since the days
of Rutherford B Hayes.

Egg hunt? There was none.
But, Donny, his wife may
have said. The children
will be so disappointed.

Go back to your knitting,
Melania, no one will notice.
No one, dear Donny, but the media.

The little blue Buddha
in the front yard said
the Serenity Prayer by
Reinhold Niebuhr,
while I turned my
head skyward on this
glorious spring day
and sighed for all the
deaths coming down
for today.

IT WAS CHALLENGED by a woman on POETRY PLACE named Lin Bai. She's a Chinese poet and novelist, says Wiki, who focuses on women's issues.

My answer to her, on Poetry Place was: Lin Bal, that's not what I heard on the Charlie Rose Show last night. Also, I get the Daily Report from the White House. On the day of the Egg Hunt, there was not a single photo, only photos of past egg hunts. No matter.

A wet bed is an uncomfortable bed - Poem: My dad's hankies

I keep several containers of water on my bedside table - including my new lime-green large cup PLUS my all important flashlight. Was reaching for my flashlight by feel when I grabbed instead a glass water bottle, turned it over so I could flash my light on, when, psh psh psh, the water watered my bed.

Oh deary me, oh deary me.

Everything is now in the washing machine downstairs.

I spose I'll sleep on the red couch.

I am one of those people who is always sharing interesting emails with others. I titled this one: Jews get markers.

Harriet had seen it on one of her cruises.

Before I began yesterday, I wrote a Letter to the Editor of the Times Kron. It was about a walk Scott and I took on Rails to Trails.

*
Gunter David, an old friend of mine, had amazing success writing for various publications. Look, he even has a beard here in Wild River Review, which is no longer published. Good writer who left Berlin with his family as the Nazis were gaining power.

*

The first thing I thought about when I woke up today was my dad.

I still can't believe I live in this house all by myself. And I have no friends. Should I write an op-ed about that?

*

Watched RASHOMON last night on TCM. Left Scott's at 2 15 am, tottering home with my bad left leg.

*

Thanks Iris for sending me Michael's Gourmet Coffee. A gift for the Jewish New Year.

*

Schism between Beatriz's group - our group - at her home - about bed bugs - so I invited everyone over my house. We're tentatively calling the group THE CIGAR BOX, Rem knows why.

Okay, almost 5 am.

Off go the lights and out come the bugs!

MY DAD'S HANKIES

Fresh from the drying rack
they are thin as crepes
I can hold them over my mouth
in Beijing to quell the toxic
government and polluted air
always thinking of my dad
who once trumpeted as
he was slowly dying
a death by smoking.

More about Trash Cans - At the Movies A PRIVATE WAR

Just came home from the movies... A PRIVATE WAR which Roger Ebert gives a great review.

2018 film.

A Private War Movie Poster

I've gotta read all about it.

The war correspondent's name was Diane Colvin.

The theater was crowded.

I hadn't been there in a while so got out my directions from the pocket on the driver's side.

When the film was over I walked quickly to my parking spot. I usually back in over by the reeds.

While walking I realized I was in NO PAIN.

Yes, I have been doing my back exercises every morning.

Realized I had dragged in the house a dead lantern fly.

Took him outside with a garden glove. I also swatted anudder one on the mailbox. He flew away like a dive bomber.

A humming bird just now flew right up to the screen door.

Scott and I drove to the Michener Museum yesterday. He drove my car. We parked as we always do at the Bucks County Library.

When we left we were starving. We ate at CARABBAS.

His salmon was exquisite, as was his potato salad.

I'm eating my left over linguine with shrimp and scallops and mushrooms.

They wanted to seat us by the bar on those ridiculous high chairs.

I didn't come here, I said, to watch Dr Phil!

So then we were seated right next to a couple - an old man with a walker and an even older woman with a walker.

Privacy!

Our personality plus waiter was Brendan. He and his GF live in Fishtown which is becoming gentrified.

Scott and I talked about where we would each wanna live. He wonders if he'd enjoy the shore if he lived there full time.

Brendan answered New Zealand.

Beautiful, isolated, blue waters, birds unusual animals.

Final Farewell to Roberto, as I called him

If ever a family was touched by tragedy it was the Lokoffs. View the funeral here.

Terri Lynne was killed by a drunk driver.

Her parents began a wonderful foundation in her name.

Now as I write a postcard, I come across Rob Lokoff's address card.

Rob Lokoff, 300 West Elm Street, Suite 2310, Conshohocken, PA 19428

THE FINAL GOODBYE

We met ages ago when your dad owned Bryn Mawr Stereo
You were born to love music
You and your best friend Phil Martino
Now you dwell with the angels
In the Big Easy
Where they held you aloft
So you could play the piano
In your blue shirt
Free from all the
Shakespearean misery
that ruled your life.

New strong plastic recyclable cans arrive on our street

It had just finished pouring when the Ryder Trucks arrived.

Kitchen middens of yore
Deep holes of buried trash
in the Yukon
The sweet smell of unadulterated
plastic, that will last for years,
wheels big as on a John Deere riding
mower
Proud to be an Upper Moreland resident
as the spotted lantern fly alights
on my front door. Some things
cannot be fixed. Yet.

The places he'll go in his new truck - Sunday with Mom - Worst of all insects

Honest to god, I felt so proud with Cole's new truck on our street.

It's a 2015 Dodge Ram he bought at Reedman Bros in Jenkintown.

Scott took it for a spin and loved it. Over the years, he's had many trucks.

Also took a picture of my unusual breakfast which I can't find.

Wanting to use up my cottage cheese before it went bad, I made a couple of eggs with a dollop of cottage cheese, sauteed in mushrooms. When it was cool, I poured cinnamon on it. It came out way too fast.

I was early for SUNDAY WITH MOM.

What a great time we all had.

Lynn made her delicious yogurt.

After that, sloppy joes with turkey meat in pockets of some type of shell.

Where did that photo go?

THE BIG CLOCK, a famous film was on Sunday Noir this morning. I had no intention of sleeping thru the whole thing, but did! Maybe it's on YouTube.

I have absy no idea what it's about.

While I was at Mom's, Scott rode his bike at Pennypack Trail in Lower Moreland, on the way to mom's.

I admired Lynn for all her energy in helping Mom.

Spotted Lanternfly Program Information

The moment I got home, a bug was hopping about in my dining room.

I could not believe it.

A spotted lantern fly.

I swatted it but to no avail.

Then I put on my garden gloves and tried again.

Took the little bastard outside and squooshed him underfoot.

One down.

Anudder one landed on my mailbox.

Missed him.

I brought to Mom's one of our garden green peppers.

Lynn remembered that peppers are sexual beings and ours was a female.

Was just outside clipping our bushes, hoping for another sighting.

Notes about my former husband Millard G Deming

OBIT NOTICE
Born Sept 6, 1946
Died March 29, 2009

HE SHALL NOT BE FORGOTTEN

He was a model of a man
who drove all the way up from
Texas in that stick-shift green Falcon
that made scary noises
and found his way into my heart.

In New Hope at 'the store' my dad told me his
name was Millard, not Mike as he
called himself

We picknicked in the green fields
of Bucks County, while the Elvira Madigan
Mozart Concerto played in the distance

He named the different
clouds for me, as songbirds flew overhead
in arcs of love.

It was good back then, very very
good, but something went wrong.
Very very wrong.
Love fled away slowly as a
blood-letting.

He was born on this day, September 6,
1946, and I won't ever forget this
model of a man.

It's raining now, here in PA, soft tears
for the man I loved and who still loves
us all.
