My new Library Books - such a simple concept - BORROW the BOOK and then RETURN IT - was it Ben Franklin thought of that?

Nice photos on the HARD CHOICES book jacket.

Hard Choices is a memoir of former United States Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, published by Simon & Schuster in 2014, giving her account of her tenure in that position from 2009 to 2013. It also discusses some personal aspects of her life and career, including her feelings towards President Barack Obama following her 2008 presidential campaign loss to him. It is generally supportive of decisions made by the Obama administration.

The book was promoted partly in light of the possibility of a Clinton bid in the 2016 presidential election (in which, two years after the release of the book, she would go on to win the Democratic nomination and then lose to Donald Trump in the general election). Excerpts from the book were released in advance of its publication. Clinton staged an extensive promotional tour for the book, which had the air of a political campaign with groups both for and against her appearing at book-signing events. Hard Choices reached #1 on the New York Times Best Seller List, but sold considerably less than her 2003 memoir, Living History. Interpreting what sales of the book meant for her possible political future became a subject for discussion among interested parties.

SADLY THE BOOK IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO READ DUE TO ITS HEFT.

...

AN ATLAS OF IMPOSSIBLE LONGING

By Anuradha Roy

Fiction. I will give this book of packed gorgeous prose another try. It's like being in a room of sunbeams giving the reader, me, no respite from delight. GLASS SHARDS, GLASS SHARDS.

...

I read selections from all these books while in the library. Will I be able to follow the premise of this book, I ask myself.

Bravo is written by Greg Rucka and as I read it, the book sounded similar to another crime fiction where saving the world sounded very similar.

The only books I can read twice are Nancy Drew.

...

FINDING FREEDOM has two co-authors who dig at the truth.

I am definitely a follower of Meghan and Harry. Does Meghan have her own last name before she gets married? Complication. She was married to an actor who was unfair to his woman so she began divorce proceedings.

This is one book I am truly enjoying.

I am at the part where the two will be married on the morrow. Meghan's odd father is making trouble offstage. She is very worried about him. When she was a child they were very close. He would make biracial Barbies for her.

7th century BC library of Assurbanipal

Considered last great king of Assyria.

Oh, wait till you see what he looks like!

. Ashurbanipal, also spelled Assurbanipal,[9] Asshurbanipal[10] and Asurbanipal[9] (Neo-Assyrian cuneiform: Ashurbanipal in Akkadian.png Aššur-bāni-apli or Aššur-bāni-habal,[11][12] meaning "Ashur has given a son-heir")[13][14] was the king of the Neo-Assyrian Empire from the death of his father Esarhaddon in 668 BC to his own death in 631 BC.[1][2][3] The fourth king of the Sargonid dynasty, Ashurbanipal is generally remembered as the last great king of Assyria.

At the time of Ashurbanipal's reign, the Neo-Assyrian Empire was the largest empire that the world had ever seen and its capital, Nineveh, was probably the largest city on the planet. Selected as heir by his father in 672 BC despite not being the eldest son, Ashurbanipal ascended to the throne in 669 BC jointly with his elder brother Shamash-shum-ukin, who became king of Babylon. Much of the early years of Ashurbanipal's reign was spent fighting rebellions in Egypt, which had been conquered by his father.

TIME FOR... READING IN BED

How many books do you think THE BLIND LIBRARIAN OF THE ARGENTINE READ ?

Are these the days of the Wild West?

Bob Scott shore thinks so as he pours whatever is in his wheelbarrow to make cement.

I've watched this on ASK THIS IS YOUR OLD HOUSE.

Sign in front of JEEP reads EACH ONE, TEACH ONE, about Africa.

Miss Imani I Scott will make her daddy a hearty stew.

He has been working ALL SUMMER on the fences.

And I mean hearty.

My daughter Sarah, now in her 40s, was born in Brenham, TX, where our favorite place to eat was at a an old BBQ place where they'd slaughter the meat and make the tenderest BBQ you ever tasted.

I'd light out of town before it was light to study Library Science at the University of TX at Austin. Would ride a pale green Datsun with no AC all the way to class.

I did manage to see, however, the blind old librarian Jorge Luis Borges.

Oh, let me never forget him, never forget him.

Jorge Francisco Isidoro Luis Borges Acevedo (/ˈbɔːrhɛs/;[2] Spanish: [ˈboɾxes] (About this soundlisten); 24 August 1899 – 14 June 1986) was an Argentine short-story writer, essayist, poet and translator, and a key figure in Spanish-language and international literature. His best-known books, Ficciones (Fictions) and El Aleph (The Aleph), published in the 1940s, are compilations of short stories interconnected by common themes, including dreams, labyrinths, philosophers, libraries, mirrors, fictional writers, and mythology.[3] Borges's works have contributed to philosophical literature and the fantasy genre, and have been considered by some critics to mark the beginning of the magic realist movement in 20th century Latin American literature.[4] His late poems converse with such cultural figures as Spinoza, Camões, and Virgil.

Born in Buenos Aires, Borges later moved with his family to Switzerland in 1914, where he studied at the Collège de Genève. The family travelled widely in Europe, including Spain. On his return to Argentina in 1921, Borges began publishing his poems and essays in surrealist literary journals. He also worked as a librarian and public lecturer. In 1955, he was appointed director of the National Public Library and professor of English Literature at the University of Buenos Aires. He became completely blind by the age of 55. Scholars have suggested that his progressive blindness helped him to create innovative literary symbols through imagination.[Note 1] By the 1960s, his work was translated and published widely in the United States and Europe. Borges himself was fluent in several languages.

In 1961, he came to international attention when he received the first Formentor Prize, which he shared with Samuel Beckett. In 1971, he won the Jerusalem Prize. His international reputation was consolidated in the 1960s, aided by his works being available in English, by the Latin American Boom and by the success of García Márquez's One Hundred Years of Solitude.[5] He dedicated his final work, The Conspirators, to the city of Geneva, Switzerland.[6] Writer and essayist J. M. Coetzee said of him: "He, more than anyone, renovated the language of fiction and thus opened the way to a remarkable generation of Spanish-American novelists.

MY FAVORITE LINE

AND THEN HE SAW THE ALEPH.

Just got tax returns in the mail - they are spread all over living room carpet - Grace Catherine is now 11 years old !!!!

My granddaughter Grace Catherine Deming is at the Jersey Shore now, but will be home on Saturday.

On August 15, she turned ELEVEN YEARS OLD.

I mailed her via Amazon THREE BOOKS in a series, advised by Ada and Rich Fleisher. When I did speak to Grace, she had never heard of them!!!

I do have her enrolled in SAGE TUITION REWARDS.

It is so complicated being alive in the 21st century.

POEM FOR GRACE

How about that smooth sea water

that's been here a billion years

Caressing your tiny body and admiring

Youth, beauty, your smiles and generosity.

One thin dime - right into the bowl on my living room desk

Was watching COLLEGE BEHIND BARS, a Ken Burns etc presentation and was napping. When I stood up I saw the mail had come.

I needed more postage for my two grandchildren and affixed it.

Found the mail truck with Miss Mena, as I call her, still inside.

Asked her if she had kids, since I found a Roosevelt dime.

She asked if that meant she will have kids.

If you want them, I offered.

My leg was still hurting as I was icing it while watching COLLEGE BEHIND BARS.

Selma Burke was also credited for the picture of the dime as the original sculptor had seen it.

FDR had contracted polio and they thought the March of Dimes would contribute to finding a cure.

Sabin and Salk.

Did my Clock Arrive? YOU take a guess

Owners of a coffee shop in Tacoma WA planned ahead as they knew the price of arabica beans would increase.

This is from the NY Times.

I pulled out ENDURANCE the story of Scott Kelly learning to become a pilot and almost getting killed in the process. An engaging book to read even if you don't quite understand everything.

I am only halfway finished but something amazing takes place. Scott, whose twin brother is Mark, thought he needed to have "the perfect family" in order to be an astronaut. He had read that in the Tom Wolfe book "The Right Stuff."

He began dating a woman and very much enjoyed her company. She said Yes to his marriage proposal when he got down on one knee.

Then he had "an epiphany." He did not want to get married. He thought and thought about it. Everything had been arranged for the marriage ceremony, the best men flying in from all over the world, and he decided he would go through with it.

Okay, time to get into bed. First a little snack. Meet me in the kitchen. We'll have a slice of bread with peanut butter on it.

My son Dan while in grad school would make this most famous sandwich for lunch. He also ate Raman noodles.

Offstage, I will examine the contents of the nodules and see if they are healthy.

YOU NEED MY PERMISSION !!!

I ordered a new clock for my kitchen from Amazon.com. My clock is an hour behind. The clock will arrive in a couple of days.

BUT, Amazon is sneaky.

When I checked to see when the clock would arrive they had set us up for all sorts of products SCOTT AND I do not want.

Fortunately I cancelled all of them.

Then Scott told me about what our landscape people did.

I wrote them a note.

R & R threw our peach stump right into our garden.

We do not appreciate that, I told Scott Gardo.

We hope it didn't do any damage.

SPOKE TO SISTER DONNA this morning. We were kvelling over the decent weather.

She wanted to know particular vitamins for her newly diagnosed osteopena.

A few family members have this. Mom did. I do not wanna take the test.

Tests tests tests.

That's all you do when you get in your older years.

Donna and I both wanna learn how to sing.

We were singing OH WHAT A BEAUTIFUL MORNING, OH WHAT A BFUL DAY.

My voice is quite scratchy, hers was good.

Gonna look on the internet - where else - for songs to sing.

When I worked at SYMPHONY MANOR in Trevose, PA, I brought in sheet music every day and they loved to sing.

Click here and let your voice soar.

Dead of ovarian cancer.

JUST REDID LETTER TO LINDA AND JACK FOGEL. Wanted to update it. Was sitting in my mailbox gathering dust and spider webs and I wrote it in a larger font.

WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT FIRST ?

Please! Go back to bed

Furlong Lighting closing after 51 years. Read about here.

It's close to Doylestown, PA.

I went there when I was very young and broke something. Can barely remember. My mom and I were searching to find something to replace it, but we never did.

Oh, those unhappy stories.

Just woke up to some strange music emanating from WXPN-FM.

Chuck van Zyl.

Rhythmic.

I'd been soaking left leg in ice and at the same time reading LOUISE PENNY.

At first I couldn't find my eyeglasses and reading was simply murder. Finally found them.

Louise Penny.

Then I hobbled downstairs and looked outside into the night sky.

At nearly 2 am.

Meteors? Are you there?

No, but some strange people on my street were speeding and passed my house.

Every time I go back to bed I put some Tik Taks in my mouth.

They are made with fake sugar but I forget which kind.

Hey, let's check and see if STUTZ CANDY KITCHEN is still in biz.

No joke that places are closing left n right.

Whew!
