More Amtrak News - Our Eating Healthy Group meets with Mary Ann Moylen

Brendon Bostian, 32, of Queens, NY, was the engineer of the Amtrak train that derailed yesterday killing 8 and injuring over 200.

His speed was 106 mph in a 50 mph zone.

All passengers have now been accounted for.

Bostian, who loved trains since he was a child, had absolutely no memory of what happened and was distraught when he learned about it.

He had been a member of an online forum to comment about trains, frequently posting exhortations about the necessity of putting in automatic controls for trains, citing human error.

From the Times: [His] posts criticize a lack of safeguards to protect against human error, pointing out how fatigue, bad communication and “cutting corners” could lead to crashes.

An experienced driver, we eagerly await WHY he was traveling that fast. As my mom suggested, maybe he was out, unconscious.

Mom told me that her nephew, Marty Greenwald, originally from Cleveland, but now living in the DC area, was on a train that crashed, probably AMTRAK. She's phoning Marty's dad, Stewart, to help her remember.

This tragedy has really gripped us in Philadelphia.

Here's our Healthy Eating Group in the Coffeeshop of the Willow Grove Giant. Mary Ann Moylen, nutritionist, is our special guest.
Mary Ann answered a lot of questions about healthy eating.

Breakfast suggestions included eggs, yogurt, fish, cottage cheese.

I was eating a container from the salad bar and asked her if it's OK if I eat such a large portion.

Eat as much as you want, she said.

At 1 pm, Mary Ann and Chef Dan were giving a talk on Healthy Fats, so many of us went to hear it.

The main dish, which Chef Dan Keebler served, was broiled chicken breast with a Mango-Strawberry Relish. Also had toasted almonds, green scallions, oregano (very tasty) and lime juice.
Chef Dan grew up on a Dairy Farm that is now part of Penn State. He no longer eats ice cream, which he used to love, b/c of all the additives in it.

If I can't pronounce the ingredients, why should I put them in my body? he said.

Another time Dan had mentioned to me he used to own The Homestead Restaurant in Horsham, which folded like a souffle when it comes out of the oven.
Linda Barrett enjoys cooking. She uses some low-fat spreads and often bakes with either applesauce or bananas instead of shortening. Dan said the bananas were esp. healthy and delicious.

Dessert is made with Giant Frozen Yogurt with Pineapple sprinkled with toasted almonds, strawberries and a big black grape.
Wrong... the big black grape was an almond covered with chocolate.... for the ladies. I think there was one guy there - Wayne - a neighbor on Greyhorse Ave - with his wife Carol. She's only 73 or 75 and already has dementia.
Mary Ann looks like she's a bartender dispensing salad dressings and frozen desserts. No more DUIs, but a lot more PWDs, persons with diabetes.

Mary Ann Moylen talks about Nuts. I stopped eating pistachios b/c my nails get ruined when I open the shell.

Very hard to see the tiny blue blossoms on this green shrub with the most LUSCIOUS greenery on it.

Double-click and you'll see the actual SEED of the sunflower, broken open, as the tiny green seedling pushes its way out toward the sun.

Ah! The genius of Nature.
